NipMist is an emulsion of catnip oil and water. Catnip (nepeta cataria) is a plant that is a member of the mint family of plants, a cousin of basil, oregano and spearmint. The leaves, stems and seedpods of the plant are covered with tiny bulbs (trichomes) that contain the essential oil. In order to obtain the highest quality catnip oil - the oil found in NipMist - the trichomes are broken open, the oil is collected and then steam distill to obtain a product high in nepetalactone, the primary active ingredient.
